The Gift List is an independent Gift List service.  It is not linked to any one particular shop or online store.  This means you, the event organiser, can simply select the gifts you desire, from any store, anywhere, and place your gift suggestions on The Gift Orchard.  Your guests are then free to visit any store that stocks the listed gift to purchase the item.

Registering with The Gift Orchard costs a one off fee of $65 to be paid for by the event organiser (i.e. the person/s setting up the gift list).  You then have unlimited use of the service for a 9 month period from the date of registration, and your guests get to use the service free of charge!

Once registered, you can create a gift list and edit it as often as you like.  You can also take advantage of a range of other features, including creating invitation inserts, and personalised messages to your guests.  You will even have a summary of the items purchased by your guests to help you prepare thankyou notes.

If you are holding a combined event with your partner or friend, it is important to list both of your surnames when registering with The Gift Orchard.  You should use the surname/s that your guests will best know you by (usually your maiden name), so that they can search for your gift list using this name/s.

Creating a Gift List:

This is entirely up to you, except that you will be required to enter “Minimum Information”, including the Gift Name and Quantity Required. 

Generally it is better to include as much information about each gift as possible to assist your guests to know exactly what gift you desire.  This is made easy with The Gift Orchard, as there are simple information fields that you can complete to describe each gift for your guests.

When a guest decides to select a gift for purchase they can click on the “Select Gift” button next to the relevant gift to reserve the item.  When other guests view the list, the relevant item will be marked “Purchased”, so they cannot select the same gift.

However, if multiple quantities of the gift have been requested, then the gift list will show the number of items remaining that have not yet been purchased.  Guests can then purchase additional quantities of the gift up to the number of items remaining.

How you let your guests know that you have a gift list with The Gift Orchard is up to you.  However, we do provide a selection of invitation inserts that can be printed off and included in your invitations to notify guests of your gift list.  The invitation inserts can be viewed either in the “View Demonstration” section, or once you’ve registered through the “Update Your Gift List” section.

You can use The Gift Orchard for multiple occasions (e.g. an engagement party and wedding), provided the occasions occur within 9 months of you initial registration with The Gift Orchard.  However, you will need to update your registration details and registry list to reflect the other relevant occasion.

The Gift Orchard enables guests to mark a gift as “Purchased” by clicking on the “Select Gift” button next to the item they wish to purchase.  Other guests will then see that a gift has already been purchased, allowing them to select another gift for you. 

This is one of the fantastic benefits of using The Gift Orchard – making sure you receive the gifts you truly desire, rather than “double-ups” and other items that don’t suit your tastes and needs.

Yes, it is possible to load in web links in the “Description” field of the gift list organiser.  We do not currently enable pictures to be inserted.

Yes, you can update and edit your gift list as often as you like.  Guests will then instantly be able to view your updated list, ensuring that they have all the information required to select a gift you’ll treasure.

16. Can I ask guests to make contributions towards a single expensive gift?

Yes, you can list expensive items and then ask guests to make contributions towards these items.

Your gift list is protected by username and password to ensure that only you can edit or change your registration or gift list details.

Guests can only view your gift list by entering your surname and date of event.  This combination of information helps ensure that only those guests you wish to view your registry can do so.

Guests:

You can search for a gift list by entering the surname of the event organiser and date of the event.  These details can be entered via The Gift Orchard’s home page, or via the “Find a Gift List” link on the top toolbar of the website.
